to buy or not to buy...

"In the world before Monkey, primal chaos reigned. Heaven sought order, but the phoenix can fly only when it's feathers are grown. The four worlds formed again and yet again, as endless aeons wheeled and passed. Time and the pure essences of Heaven all worked upon a certain rock, old as creation. It became magically fertile. The first egg was named "Thought". Tathagata Buddha, the Father Buddha said "With our thoughts, we make the world". Elemental forces caused the egg to hatch. From it came a stone monkey."

I was pre-ordering my Serenity dvd (yay!) and I came across the complete series of Monkey in a box set of 16 dvds!!! Does anyone know what I am talking about? Probably not. It might be like the Logan's Run thing.

I loved Monkey. Although, looking back it was a strange thing for a 12 year old to watch.

I should buy it. It is not cheap, but I should buy it.

I can have a Monkey party and hire a projector and try to find people who know about Monkey to attend. It might be another one of those parties where it is just me. Does anyone remember the Lost Angel cafe on K'Rd? They used to play Monkey. That was a cool cafe... it was my favourite. I'm so sad it is gone.

*gasp*

Someone else remembers the Logans Run series?

Man, I so hope that never comes out on DVD - my memories of it are so great, I'm sure that seeing it again would destroy them.

Yes, I've got fond memories of 'Monkey' on Sunday afternoons... His sideburns were an inspiration to me.

But what was the story with Tripitaka? Was he/she a he played by a she, or a she played by a he? Or maybe something even more kinky?

Cheezy,

Sunday afternoons were great :)
I never questioned Tripitaka back then. I thought he was a girlish boy, but who knows....although I'm sure the interweb knows...have to go see...

MALACH!
hugs!!! ...you remember Logans Run! :D

I ADORED Logans Run. I think it was my favourite at the time tv show. I'm sure I've seen it at video stores, but I am like you...wary of disappointment.

I only know of one other person who remembers and loves it - but he is apaprently very similar to me so it is not surprising. No one else knows what I am talking about...they are all "I remember Knight Rider and Dr Who and Dukes of Hazard and Battlestar Galactica..."

Tripitaka info:

The role was male but the actor was a female...

Ah, yeah, I remember all those, Suze.

There must be a correlation with people who frequent blogs and people who used to watch 70s scifi.

Could be an age thing, too. I'm 37, so all those programmes were on TV when I was young.

Well done Suze, quality Googling :)

I wonder where Tripitaka is now...

The actress who played Tripitaka is dead. I think she died quite young with Leukaemia ...but her memory lives on...

Yep, count me in for the Logan's run (saw the movie twice in a row, then the TV series), Monkey, Land of the Lost, and even earlier than that was the kids shows: Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet.

Green Hornet, Kung Fu, that Moonbase Alpha prog, Man from Atlantis, and "Steve Austin, a man barely alive...we can rebuild him..."

Oops, said way too much.

Sorry about that chief.

The Man from Atlantis was another of my favourites. I've no idea why. I can't even remember what it was about, which is strange as I can remebere being absolutely enthralled byt hte program.

All I remember is the beach scene, ie the part where the man from Atlantis crosses the interface (ie emerges from the sea or enters the sea).

The actress who played Tripitaka is dead.

Bloody hell, that just brought me down with a thump :-/

The Man From Atlantis? That guy's webbed toes used to gross me out!
